I had to edit the brightness of the picture using iphone8
For capturing a color of my siding I took a picture of a large area that was in the shade with bright sun light reflecting off adjacent surfaces. When I used the color capture feature, all paints came out too dark when held up to the vinyl siding. So, I increased the brightness of the photo using Photos until I could hold up my iPhone to the siding using color capture and the brightness was the same. I found 2 good matches. Now, I will get some samples and find out if the matches are real.
Note that I turned up the brightness on my IPhone to max before I started this exercise.
Could Use Modifications
I'm finding that it's almost impossible for an app that will allow you to virtually paint a room. I want to paint an "attic" cape cod room a dark green but not sure if I want to paint the whole room or just some of the walls. I was hoping an app would somewhat let me visualize my options. This app isn't great as in, it can't identify the walls. It generates very blotchy and you would need to put the paint density all the way up to completely fill the walls. Which then over fills lots of areas you don't want paint including the floor, annoying, but not a big deal. I figured I'd just use the eraser to clean it up and get the general idea of what I was going for. This is where I just gave up..... the eraser is in the shape of a circle and doesn't operate like most erasers in programs. While held down to erase it creates "circle stamps" instead of a straight line. You won't be able to erase a straight edge....it'll look scalloped.
Colors Outdated
The app is easy to use, fun, color matching seems to be spot on so after spending a few days to narrow down THE perfect color it's finally time to pick up some chips and look at them in your room before putting some real paint on the walls.....only to find that nothing you've picked is on any of the color chips. Computer to help locate chips is not set up to help you find the closest or at least a color within the family you've decided on. The guy at the counter is nice and he'll make you up a sample of the old color, but seriously, he said the color I'd picked out hasn't been on the chip board for at least five years. UPDATE your app Home Depot!!! If you want your tools to be useful that's a no brainer. And also the app often freezes up when it's time to try "Painting" your wall. Have to shut it down and start it again. Painful.
Thank you for using the Home Depot Project Color App and for reaching out to us with your feedback. It's feedback from customers like you that helps us get better and better. The colors in the app should be available at the store. I am not sure why you had trouble but am happy to help get you the samples you need. Please reach out to projectcolorapphelp@homedepot.com with details about the colors and your device and we will investigate what is causing the issues you encountered.
